Top places to visit during your Switzerland trip
From charming Alpine ski resorts to crystal clear lakes, and quaint coloured timber buildings, nowhere else offers charm quite like Switzerland does. Here are just a few places you should visit while you’re on holiday here.
1. Geneva
Nestled by the Swiss-French-Italian border, Geneva may be a small city, but it’s got a lot going for it. Its picturesque setting on Lake Geneva offers pretty waterside views wherever you are, with Jet D’Eau visible from all directions. Visit here on your trip to Switzerland from Dubai, and take a boat to visit nearby lakeside towns, or stay on dry land and wander the cobblestoned streets of the city, as you uncover l'horloge fleurie (the outdoor flower clock), and the Palais de Nations, featuring flags from all members of the UN.
2. Zurich
The largest city in Switzerland, any of our Switzerland holidays should include a visit to Zurich. Visit the many art galleries and museums the city is home to, including Kunsthaus, where you’ll see Van Gogh’s and Monet’s, and the Swiss National Museum, where you can learn all about the history of the country up until the present day. Other things to do include shopping ‘til you drop on Bahnhofstrasse, and heading out on a boat onto Lake Zurich itself.
3. Lucerne
Another truly beautiful Swiss city, head to Lucerne on your Switzerland trip with DW Travel, and you won’t be disappointed! Start at the Chapel Bridge, which is perhaps one of the most iconic sights of the city, before taking a step back in time and heading to the Old Town, with its medieval square and coloured timber buildings housing restaurants by the waterfront.
4. Interlaken
A traditional Swiss resort town, as its name would suggest, Interlaken can be found in between two lakes: Thun to one side, and Brienz to the other. Cruise across both of them, head into the nearby Bernese Alps for a spot of skiing, or take the funicular up to Harder Kulm, where you’ll be rewarded with beautiful views over the lake. Whatever you choose to do, Interlaken offers Alpine fun at its finest.
5. Basel
With so many places to explore on your Switzerland tour package, you can’t forget Basel! Close to the German border, Basel can easily be reached by train from Zurich in an hour; and there’s a definite buzz here, with it being a student city. The neo-gothic Old Town Hall should be at the top of your list, but make some time to discover the near-300 fountains in the city (many of which you can actually bathe in!), as well as visit the Kunstmuseum, which is said to house the world’s oldest public art collection.
