If you’re planning your next family getaway, have you considered a cruise? A different experience to flying, cruises offer so many benefits that make them the perfect way to travel with kids, grandparents, and extended family....Read on to uncover why your next holiday should be a cruise.

1. You’ll get to visit multiple destinations

The biggest pro of going on a cruise, is you’ll be transported to so many different destinations. Whether you want to sail close to home around the Middle East, explore the Mediterranean, or jet off further afield to the Caribbean; a cruise will enable you to discover loads of destinations – often more than would be possible if you flew and booked transport yourself.

In many cases, you might only spend a day in each city, but it’s enough to give you a flavour of what it has to offer, so you can decide if you’d like to return.

2. The kids will be entertained…

Cruise ships cater to all, and there’ll be no end of entertainment for little kids and teenagers, with soft play areas, cinemas, pools, arcades, and more just waiting to be explored.

Kids discos and other youth activities are often held each day, as well as late night childcare – perfect if you’re after a few hours of relaxation, or want to enjoy a romantic meal for two!

3. … and so will the adults!

The sheer amount of variety on offer on a cruise means the whole family will be entertained. Grandparents might want to take advantage of the evening shows on-board , while you and your partner might want to enjoy a couples’ massage instead.

From educational talks, through to getting your nails done, taking part in a relaxing early morning yoga class, ballroom dancing, or playing a game of bridge; there are so many activities you’ll be able to take part in, that you might not get to do while on-land, which is just one of the reasons why a cruise is a great way to travel. And, because everything’s in one place, and in close proximity; cruises are ideal for grandparents joining, if they’re a little less mobile.

4. You’ll only need to unpack once

Hopping from place to place means you can experience so many different cultures, but the one annoying thing is having to unpack as you move between hotels. A cruise removes that hassle, as you’ll return back to your cabin each evening, where your belongings will be safely stowed away.

5. You won’t be bound by weight restrictions

Unlike airlines, that have specific weight restrictions around luggage, meaning you’ll need to pay extra for excess baggage; cruises tend to be more relaxed.

That means you often won’t have to adhere to weight restrictions, allowing you to pack extra outfits, toys, and games, to keep the whole family entertained for the entirety of the trip. Just make sure if you plan on doing a lot of shopping, you bring an empty case, otherwise you might struggle to pack everything away on the last day!

 6. It offers excellent value

With so many inclusions offered as part of your cruise - from day trips to various cities and countries, through to the use of a pool, entertainment on-board, and more; it can often work out as better value for money than if you were to book all of this yourself on-land. Whatever your budget, there’s something for everyone with a cruise - with standard and luxury boats available, as well as different types of cabins available.

7. Enjoy a variety of food

When travelling with the whole family, it can be hard finding restaurants that cater to everyone’s preferences – and depending on where you travel to, there can be some concerns around hygiene, too.

You won’t have any of these worries on a cruise. Often featuring a variety of cuisines – from a family-friendly buffet, through to Italian, Japanese, Lebanese, Thai, and more, the whole family will be catered for, and you can rest assured that the food will be fresh, and hygienically prepared.

8. Minimal planning is needed

Going on a cruise takes out the stress of planning a holiday, as everything is taken care of. Aside from booking the flights to your destination and the cruise itself (in which case, don’t forget to have a read of our family travel tips guide), you can sit back, relax, and let the cruise liner do the rest of the planning!

Not only will they provide you with an itinerary, so you’ll know exactly where you’ll be and when; but they’ll often offer organised tours for each destination you stop off in, and can provide you with suggestions of things to do, so you won’t need to spend hours doing your own research.

9. There are doctors on-board

Hopefully you won’t need to seek medical advice while you’re on holiday, but accidents can happen – from getting an upset stomach, through to one of the kids falling over, and bumping their heads.

If you’ve booked your own holiday independently, you might need to Google the nearest hospital or doctors’ surgery; but with a cruise, they’ll have on-site medical facilities that you can visit should you need to, to give you extra peace of mind.

10. You’ll get to meet new people

Whether you spend a week or a month on your cruise, you’ll be travelling around with the same group of people – albeit from all over the world - which makes it easier to get chatting, and form friendships.

Little ones can form fast friendships at the kid-friendly activities, singletons might find their future partners, and you and your significant other might make friends with the couple sitting opposite you in one of the restaurants. It’s all part of the experience, and is just one of the many reasons why you should give cruising a try!

So, wherever you’re planning on travelling to for your next holiday, a cruise can keep the whole family occupied, and mean you’ll get to see a variety of cities and resorts that you may not have been able to, had you booked your flights and accommodation separately.
