1. Valletta
Boasting more than 300 days of Mediterranean sunshine a year, no trip to Malta is complete without a visit to its capital, Valletta. An extremely walkable city, visit the ornate St. John’s Co-Cathedral, which is home to marble tombs, nine chapels, and even a crypt.
If you love history, take a tour with Underground Valletta, where you can explore hidden passages, or head to the Museum of Archaeology. Alternatively, you could easily spend a few days eating your way around the city, with plenty of outdoor cafes and restaurants serving delicious Maltese delicacies, which take inspiration from Italian and Arabian cuisine.
2. Gozo
A 30-minute ferry ride north of mainland Malta, Gozo is a tranquil paradise that offers rugged views. Rent a car to take full advantage of your time here, on your Malta travel package, and hike the dramatic limestone Sanap Cliffs, which offer amazing sunset views.
Gozo’s beaches also happen to be some of the best in the country, with Xlendi Beach’s golden shores perfect for swimming and sunbathing; and Dwjera Bay famed for the Blue Hole, which is one of the best diving spots in all of Europe.
3. Mosta
Situated right in the centre of Malta, one of the key highlights here is the Church Rotunda, which boasts the third largest dome in Europe, and dates back to the 1800s.
If you’re incorporating some time in Mosta on your vacation in Malta, other things to see include Ta’ Bistra Catacombs, which are open to the public on the last Sunday of every month, and the Monday Market, where you can shop clothes, bags, and accessories.
4. Mdina
If you’re holidaying in Malta, you should definitely spend some time in Mdina, which is the former capital of Malta. Also known as the ‘Silent City’, unlock charm and culture as you navigate the winding cobblestone streets, which are home to incredible sights such as the Mdina Gate, which acts as the entrance point to this mediaeval city, and is instantly recognisable by Game of Thrones fans as the King’s Landing Gate.
The baroque Vilhena Palace is also worth a visit, with it housing the National Museum of Natural History; and Bastion Square, situated at the edge of the city, offers a panoramic view of pretty rolling hills.
