Best places to visit on one of our Russia travel packages
From big cities with bright lights to crystal clear lakes, powder white ski resorts to dramatic mountain landscapes; Russia really does have everything.
1. St Petersburg
Regal and decadent, St Petersburg oozes opulence wherever you look. Shop ‘til you drop on Nevsky Prospekt, enjoy an evening at the ballet or opera at the Mariinsky Theatre, and visit the iconic Winter Palace, where you’ll get to wander through the lavish state rooms of Russia’s once Imperial family.
On one of our St Petersburg package tours, you should also take the time to navigate the city’s winding canals on a boat trip, where you can learn more about the rich history of the city - and if you’re visiting during one of the White Nights, watch the raising of the bridges after midnight over the River Neva.
2. Moscow
A visit to Russia is incomplete without adding on a Moscow tour package, with the capital promising a magical trip away. The Red Square, Kremlin, and St Basil’s Cathedral are just a few of the city’s iconic landmarks; but other places to visit include Lenin’s Mausoleum and the State History Museum, where you can find out more about Russia’s tumultuous past. The upscale department store GUM is also worth a visit, and you can navigate your way around the key sights via the metro, which is worthy of a mention in its own right - it’s widely cited as being one of the most beautiful public transportation systems in the world for a reason!
3. Sochi
Situated in the south of Russia on the Black Sea, in the summer, you can relax on the beaches, enjoy a wander around 33 waterfalls, which is a UNESCO site situated at the top of Bolshoy Kichmay, and boasts waterfalls of varying heights gushing down the mountains.
Alternatively, if you visit from December to April, then hit the slopes at one of Sochi’s famous ski resorts, before dining on hearty Russian food such as borscht (beetroot soup) or pirozhki, which are delicious pastries filled with meat and potato.
4. Murmansk
Alternatively, for a winter wonderland, there’s no better place to visit than Murmansk. Situated in northern Russia, close to the border with Finland; visit between January to March and you’ll have a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights, as they dance in the night sky in breathtaking rainbow shades. Other things to do while you’re here include husky sledding, snowmobiling; and revelling in the ornate ice sculptures at the Snow Village, which opens up every year with unique designs.
